Whether you have had your own medical practice for a short time or many years, how healthy is it?
Yes, the physical health of your office is quite important. Stop and think for a moment. How many patients are going to want to come to an office that is dirty, unorganized and does not have proper care?
That said there is more than the literal physical health of your office that could be troubling.
So, is it time you did a review of your medical office and practice in general to see if it could be better?
Some Areas You May Need to Improve on
In looking at your medical office and practice, focus in on these areas:
- Service to patients – First-rate service should always be your top priority. If too many feel as if you do not take the time for them or give them sub-standard service, chances are some go elsewhere. Patients should feel at ease when they come in for an appointment. They should also know that you have their best interests at heart.
- Protecting yourself – Even while you focus in on your patients, don’t forget about yourself. Being a physician means you have a lot of responsibility on your hands. As such, you have to be sure you also cover yourself. That said do you have physician disability insurance? If not, it would behoove you to take the time and research it. Such insurance can protect you should you suffer a serious injury or be dealing with a major illness. The last thing you want or need is to see your practice go under because you did not protect yourself.
- Staying on top of medical trends – It is also important to be on top of today’s medical trends. The world of medicine is always changing. As new technology and means to treat illness and injuries evolves, you need to be on top of it. If you are not and the competition is, chances are good some of your patients will leave.
- Being on top of your billing – While you love medicine and the fact that you can help people, you have to make money. That said it is important for you to stay on top of your office billing. Yes, some patients will be slow to pay you for the services you provided. This is because many patients have insurance. As a result, billing has to wait to see what respective insurers will cover. You in the meantime have your own bills to pay. Do your best to work with patients so that they pay their bills in a reasonable amount of time. If necessary, you may have to go the collections route.
So your medical practice can be around for years, make sure your office and what you do for patients is healthy.
Remember, this is your livelihood at the end of the day.
As a result, you want your office to be as healthy as it can be in more ways than one.
